Laundry Room Makeover
Tips and Tricks
1. Ikea Hack Folding Table
This Hack is SO good! But not only is it good (and pretty and functional), it's easy!
By now you know that I live by my Ikea furniture and my Ikea hacks! I can't be the only one that hates switching out laundry. I needed a place to put either items that need to be hung to dry or items that just came out of the dryer and are ready to be folded and put away.
Instantly, I thought of the Ikea desktops that you can swap out legs for. A quick search of the Ikea website and I found the perfect countertop, the Gerton, that would fit over both our washer and dryer. No more lost socks between the units!
With a few screws and several piece of pipe from your local hardware store, this is a project that can take less than an hour, unless you decide to stain it like I did!
Here is the list of supplies you will need assuming that your washer and dryer are similar in height, width and depth as mine. I believe mine are fairly standard!
Ikea Laundry Room Table Supply List
1. Ikea Gerton Tabletop
2. Minwax Jacobean Oil Based Stain (If you want to twin me Jacobean is the stain I used, however any stain or paint will work)
3. Minwax Polycrylic Crystal Clear Top coat
4. 1/2" x 2-1/2" black nipple (4 total needed)
5. 1/2" Black Floor Flange (8 total needed)
6. 1/2" x 24" Black Nipple (2 total needed)
7. 1/2" Black Tee (4 total needed)
8. 1/2" x 36" Black Nipple (4 total needed)
9. 16 screws - I used 1/2 inch
10. Felt pads to put on the bottom of the floor flanges
Create 2 sets of lets and then attach them to the table top. Based on the width of my washer dryer, I did not put a piece of pipe to attach the 2 sides. Because it's a fairly tight fit, I am not worried about the sway back and forth and I have not noticed any over the past year of having this in my laundry room.
I then purchased some minwax jacobean oil based stain and stained the top using 2 coats of stain and then 1 coat of polycrylic top coat to protect it. This step is extra and I technically only stained the top of the desktop.
2. Feature Wall with Wallpaper
I'm obsessed with the wallpaper in our house. I used my leftover One Room Challenge - Office Renovation wallpaper in our laundry room.
Love vs. Design is where I found this wallpaper! The concept they have with customizing wallpaper based on the customers preferences is revolutionary! Love vs. Design has both a smooth and a woven version of their peel and stick wallpaper! When you scroll their website you get to tune out the colors of each of the patterns because only the pattern matters. If you know what color you are going for, the website also allows you to filter by color. They change every single pattern to the basic color that you like. Once you find a pattern you like you can play with all of their color options! There are multiple shades for each color! Your wallpaper is printed just for you at the time of purchase!
The wallpaper pattern is Ikat Diamonds and I chose to use the colors: Carolina, white and Armada
3. Laundry Room Jars & Decor
I love the look of the laundry pods in a pretty jar in my laundry room! It's such a simple change that works well in my household. They add an element of decor as well as ease for access. (Disclaimer: If you have small children, this isn't the way to go since these items are child locked now.)
I found that living on a golf course, my household needed a jar for items that end up in pockets! In our case, golf tees and balls are our most commonly found item! We empty the jar every so often, but it's a pretty addition.
Here are a few options for laundry room jars that would look amazing in your laundry room makeover!
Simple changes are the key to a laundry room makeover that doesn't cost an arm and a leg. Small changes such as a laundry room table will add a large amount of function and valuable workspace for folding clothes. The wallpaper added a lot of visual interest and the jars are such a fun way to add organization and beauty.
This post was all about creating a laundry room makeover on a budget!
