“The oldest and strongest emotion of mankind is fear, and the oldest and strongest kind of fear is fear of the unknown.” -H. P. Lovecraft 1890–1937
My 2021 word of the year is FEARLESS! The unknown causes fear and DIY projects take that to the next level.
I started picking a word of the year last year. And in typical Crissy Metz fashion, I couldn’t decide on just one, so I picked two words! ???? Choose Joy!
As I reflect on the past year, I think I succeeded in living out those words! I’m a better person today for the joy I chose last year. That came from removing myself from unhealthy friendships, not listening to the drama and rumors (well I at least tried really hard), saying no to things I didn’t want to do and being my authentic self!
I’m just going to call 2020 my reset year! Back to the basics and a lot of choosing ME and choosing JOY! And fantastic friendships in 3 women, Catie L., Kristin C. and Lisa B. And of course Steven. Blessed with those 4 in my life is the understatement of the year!
This year, I move past reset, and I take a leap out of my comfort zone! I plan to go through this year fearlessly!
I’m abundantly cautious by nature. I overanalyze EVERYTHING and go through dozens of what if scenarios in my head for each life event. I like things to be black and white. But my friends, this year is about getting uncomfortable and letting go of all my fear!
I’m letting go of my fear of divorce. Fear of not having children as a 36 year old that’s not married. Fear of my ex harming me as he had threatened multiple times. Fear of my ex breaking into my house again if he finds out my address. Fear of someone I love contracting COVID-19. Fear of health issues worsening. Fear of just coasting through life and not reaching all my goals. Fear of not being consistent in my posting on IG. Fear of not being relevant and imposter syndrome. Fear of the unknown. Fear of failure. Fear of my scratch map not being scratched enough. Fear of telling you all about the DIY projects I have planned for this year and for them not turning out!
So many fears, but what does fear really do? I’m determined to leave all that in the rear view mirror in 2021. I’m going to get divorced. I’m going to make plans with Steven for our future. We’re going to get married. We’re going to have kids and I’m going to work to get myself the healthiest I’ve ever been for when we decide that time is right. I showed my step mom and my dad all the awful, frightening texts I got over the last year a few months ago. I didn’t sleep during the night for a month last December. I started to have panic attacks this summer. It was debilitating. So with that said, I’m going to finish writing this then reply to my ex father in laws email that requested my address to get some documents sent to me. I’m going to continue to stay home and mask up. I personally will choose to get the vaccine when available to me. I’m going to be intentional and set smaller goals that aren’t so scary and that will get me to those bigger goals. I’m going to plan out my photos and posts a week in advance. I’m going to celebrate my successes, however small. I’m going to plan a trip for 2022, to a place I’ve never been. I still have 13 states to scratch off for the US, after all!
And I’m going to post my 14 DIY projects that I have written down for 2021 and I’m going to share the result, no matter how they turn out!
